This tablet is worthless. For the price, I didn't expect it to work like an iPad. However, I did expect to be able to open a simple Web site. This tablet cannot do that. The technology is old, and the tablet cannot function in today's world. Comparing this tablet to an iPad is like comparing an Atari 2600 to an Xbox 360. DO NOT buy one of these tablets; you'll regret your purchase. In addition, the customer service provided by Blutekusa is absolutely horrible.

It is great to have a tablet this size, which relieves me from dragging around my laptop. Although it''s small, it has a great of features that I am just beginning to explore. It's a challenge to assemble, but that might be my problem.

EXCELENT TABLET 9/3/2012

This tablet requires someone with some knowledge about software updates. You need to flash it to the latest OS update then everything works fine. Many free applications and games available on maemo.org. Skype works just fine. Browser works fine. I think for the price, it is really worth it.

CustomerSupport I received this unit several days ago. When I first tried to turned it on, the on/off was erratic so I gave it a long charge. Nokia no longer supports N810 6/29/2012

There have been 5 OS2008 updates since the OS on the device, and if it were not for 3rd party links I would not have found those. But lack of support is Nokia's fault not the devices'. The device works well, but needs updated browser, OS, JAVA, and Flash to make it more functional. This might be considered a Linux fanboy's dream tablet.

Difficulty charging device 5/30/2012

I am finding it difficult to charge the device. I was able to charge it a few times only after removing and replacing the battery. I am not sure this is how a device is intended to be used.

this little device is very handy - boots up quickly and has an amazing screen. If you want to do web surfing on the go - this is for you. However there is no calendar feature that I was able to find to add on this device. Overall I was pleased with the item and, for surfing, it was amazing!

I've had one since 2009. Support/updates for the operating system and the browser ended in 2008. So, the web browser will display only simpler pages compatible with old browsers, video compatible with only old software, etc. It's almost worthless. An iPod Touch or similar device that's more current would be a much better choice. Really, it was a nice machine in 2009, but now it's so obsolete there's no point in buying one.

This is a great device EXCEPT they seemed to have stopped supporting it 18-24 months ago when the N900 came out, all updates and gadgets to download seem to be for the N900. If you don't have a smart phone, don't want to lug a laptop around and frequent hotspots, browser pages cant be Sloooooow to load sometimes for no reason. Yeah the GPS is cool but I couldn't find any software to work with directions, it just seems to tell you where you are

I ordered a refurbed one of these. I thought, hey a little bigger than an ipod, and runs unix. Could it be the one? I returned it. It is slow to use. Even though it has a pull out keyboard, it is hard to use. The web browswer is a lot slower than the one on the itouch. If the price comes down to $99, it might be worth it. Other than that, save your pennies, and get a ipod touch...

Lets face it I'm a gadget guy. I wanted something better than my Blackberry for internet access but easier to carry around than even a netbook. I was immediately impressed with the quality and features but as I started to use it I realized Nokia appears to have given up on devoloping its total usefulness. I found there was more free Wi-Fi spots than I expected even around my town of 100,000. However, don't expect to be on the web while you're on the go. It is great for checking emails and internet sites but don't try to use it as a computer. The GPS is fine for general driving but you'll have to pay $120 (3yrs) to use the full navigation feature (i.e. turn here, distance to objective, etc.). With memory prices so cheap its too bad Nokia didn't install more for the list price they're asking. Also Nokia seems to have given up their own programs and here turned that over to 3rd party (mostly amaeturs). As a email checker I'm happy, GPS & Media so-so, everything else disappointed that Nokia didn't think it thru all the way. But still I'm happy for its original purpose email.

Assuming my experience here is not unique, you should know that if you buy this unit from Buy.com you will receive an N810 configured for the United Kingdom, not the United States. For most things this isn't a problem, but the Internet radio comes pre-configured for the BBC, and I have yet to figure out how to change that. As far as the unit itself is concerned: PROS: Keyboard is easy to use and the screen is bright and clear. CONS: Unit feels flimsy, internet is very slow (I used it on my home network sitting right next to the router), audio reproduction (even with headphones) is low. Oh, and I should say, the box appeared to have been opened before it was shipped to me; the contents were slightly jumbled inside. I can't say this is a bad unit because it works, but overall, I feel cheated.

gps navigation via carman is worth the price alone. instant video communication is worth the price alone. i bought the n800 a while back and had to get this gem. one minisd slot vs the n800's 2 sd:( i use the on screen keyboard more then pull out keyboard but nice to have the option. hacked the n800 to boot from sd slots, thousands of apps available! kismet, ettercap, wireshark, you name it, a powerhouse in your pocket. maybe too powerful? i honestly recommend this device to everyone, you just cant go wrong..

This pocket-sized Internet tablet connects easily and quickly, much better than my old laptop with a Wireless PC Card, and its use is pretty intuitive. Battery life between charges is remarkably good. My only gripe is the size. Web pages are shown in very good resolution, but the print is very difficult to read, because the type is so tiny. Having said that, the zoom feature does help a lot, but you see less of the page. Typing on the small QWERTY keyboard is a little tedious, but I'm sure I will get better with use. I find myself using the N810 when I want to look up something when watching a movie on TV, for example "What movie did I see that actor in recently?" If you really need Internet access from a device that fits in your shirt pocket, this fills the bill, but for a few bucks more, a solid state hard drive netbook would be much easier to use in many instances.

I have a co-worker who uses the n800 but I thought that I would prefer the keyboard. What a great purchase! I can't believe how much I use this piece of hardware. I have actually cut down on using my laptop at home as this is so handy to just grab from my pocket and look something up. The Linux OS is rock solid and the list of apps available is pretty impressive. I have struggled a bit with getting the GPS stuff to work with navigation but I need to do a bit more tweeking. You don't have to be a Linux geek to use this, it is so easy! (This is coming from a semi-Linux geek).

I researched this unit for a while before I bought it. I like the fact that you can do so much with such a small device. GPS is decent maps are up to date. You can watch movies listen to music, internet radio, surf the web. Visit maemo.org if you need more software. There is a pretty good chance you'll find it there. Attention Skype cannot do video chat. Neither can Google Talk.

I am going to keep this unit. It basically does what I need it to do. I primarily wanted this unit to listen to streaming audio from certain websites and it does that reasonably well. I can also do e-mail OK on it. I have not been able to get the FM radio to work. I tried out the GPS and I am not going to subscribe to the service. I do like the Webpage viewing better than the Blackberry or the I-Phone. I was already a Rhapsody subscriber and that service works OK as well. It has crashed on me a handful of times and likewise I often getting an out of memory message. It would be nice if it was more powerful.

I was fortunate to get in on Buys great deal and finally pick up a N810. I owned a N800 and was amazed at what it could do. After loading up OS2008 and adding things such as Canola, MPlayer, and Weather App, it was incredible at what you could do. I got so used to the virtual keyboad that the N810's slide out took a bit getting used to. Still can't double tap and get the Virtual to come out but I guess that's why there's the slide out. The N810 is great, the strong point is in it's BT V2.0 that allows faster cellphone web connection. I use ATT and with the N800 it definately was a bit slower and confirmed it was truly Edge. With the N810, things got a whole lot faster, felt more like 3G, a definate plus. The added plus is the availability of a Mugen battery than can extend the use time dramatically. The stock battery is ok, but these Mugens really more battery life. All in all, this is a fantastic device geared for pure portability, whether you are at the beach or at the airport. I have a Asus 900A that is really nice but trying to pull out one of those in a busy area is a hassle. With the N810, it's one push and the unit powers up in less than 40 secs and you are ready to browse, Skype out, read emails, or watch any movie you have loaded. Granted, at the moment, I can only find a 16gb miniSD but that should be enough for most people.

Exasperation with my Palm TX and its "screen drift" led me to the Nokia N810. Palm seems to be focusing on smartphones with no new dedicated PDAs in their lineup.    Enter the N810 with Palm emulation using Garnet VM by Access. Be aware that you won't be able to fire up something like ePocrates without first turning on the device, waiting for the boot sequence, starting the emulator, and finally choosing the application. Keeping the emulator running on idle still consumes battery power.    Although it has a hardware keyboard, the N810's isn't the most ergonomic. Emulating Palm in portrait mode uses the entire screen, but you have to type sideways. However, Grafitti 1 seems to work flawlessly with the stylus.    Wifi works very well, supporting 802.11g and WPA2 Personal. The default Firefox-based browser Microb is leaps and bounds better than the Palm "Web" application. Resolution is sharper and the zoom button magnifies. Navigation is via the 5-Way navigator or by dragging the stylus.    Don't count on the N810 replacing a dedicated GPS unit or Palm with GPS receiver. Because it lacks a SIRFstar III chipset, achieving satellite locks is painfully slow. The default GPS application only shows your location and names of surrounding roads. Optional Wayfinder service costs $120/3yrs (1yr is $110; go figure), With the free downloadable Maemo Mapper application, you have to pre-load routes while on Wifi. Adding "flite" utility gives voice synthesized "robot" directions. No re-routing if you go off course!    The remaining features are a geek's wet dream. A working knowledge of Linux helps to load free GPL/homebrew apps including Gameboy Advance and Neo-Geo emulators. You can even use a Wii-mote via Bluetooth to control a ported Duke Nukem!    For the ultra-nerdy, there's a Star Trek-style LCARS desktop interface, complete with authentic sounds. You need a miniSD or microSD card with adapter to expand your memory beyond the internal 2Gb. Cloning and dual-booting to a Class 6 SDHC card may increase the N810's speed or allow you to run another flavor of Linux.    You can connect USB keyboards and drives using an after-market microUSB to female USB A On-the-Go mode cable or a regular adapter cable with software OTG switch.    X-term via secure shell (ssh) allows hacking from PC. Incidentally, the device finds network share drives very easily.    Let's not forget VOIP calling with Skype or Gizmo. If you have one of the AT&T qualifying DSL plans, you can talk for free to a friend while at a Starbucks WiFi hotspot. Or listen to your MP3 playlist, or watch YouTube, or relive your favorite frakkin' Battlestar Galactica episode converted from DVD.    As described earlier, the N810 is truly the Swiss Army knife of the portable electronics world sans cell phone. You can use it just to feed your Palm dependence, but those among you tech-savvy and Linux-familiar enough can take full advantage of its capabilities. This could possible even substitute for a real computer, especially in the internet dept. I find it hard to even write anything negative about it, I know it has flaws, but I haven't found any yet. I wish it had more apps (like using Google Gears offline), but when you get them for free, companys just don't develop them as much. Don't get me wrong, they are there, you just need to be more tech saavy to find them and install them, so it's not as user friendly as the iphone, but much less restrictive about everything you can do. Also make sure your phone company allows tethering to your phone (like sprint)for free it's far more convient than finding a Wi-Fi Hotspot. I've found that AT+T are seem to be buying up all the Wi-Fi Hotspots so getting on the internet may be costly if you don't ($8-10/month). Love the Stylus (which you'll need for internet) and replaceable battery. Both reasons I didn't get the Archos 5.

Great geek toy, swiss army knife of devices. It beat out iPod Touch for me due to linux-based (maemo) approach. I wouldn't recommend it for my mom. Updating firmware, downloading software, configuring Canola...Several steps to make it truly useful. Lots of positives and a few negatives. + Great price ($220) from buy.com. Retail price is too high. + Wifi & web browser are great. Flash support for pandora. + Canola is a great open source media player. + Speakers have nice sound in a relatively quiet room, but not car-worthy. + Lots of free software available including games. + Slide out keyboard is nice. + Great development environment: linux and python + Good community of users and developers behind it. + Nice design: size, screen, ports, surface. - Camera is lame and somewhat useless. - FM tuner and transmitter would be nice touches. - Must buy additional SDHC card to have enough storage. I haven't tried the GPS yet. I deleted the maps to free up some space.

I got this to replace a beloved Tapwave Zodiac that used to serve as a Palm platform and gaming system. Since it was opensource and had a garnet emulator I was sold. (yay for keeping all my palm apps) Be prepared for a steep learning curve if you arent on top of Linux in general. But once youre on top of this device it is way more impressive than the iphone and any of the other smartphones I was considering, particularly if you arent looking for a phone in the first place or have one you wouldnt mind tethering this to. Once you hit the web with this you will soon see what I mean. A gorgeous browsing experience that loads stuff like you see it at home. the qwerty thumb keyboard is also as nice as any you could get on a device this size and with a ton of apps from maemo and emulataion for Palm and a lot of other computing stuff in the palm of your hand, this device delivers. Plugging in my phones and watching a converted movie on mplayer running 800 x 480 on a recent flight, sealed the deal with regards to multimedia. 2 GB on board and a mini SD card slot will give me expandability down the line too. If you consider yourself a bit of a geek like me and want something other than phone based handheld and less than a laptop, this is it.

Warning - Highly Addictive 8/5/2008

The product is designed mainly for someone who is a little tech savvy, that said I can see this product turning mainstream in the next couple of years with all the enhancements being released daily. The hardware is already there its the software that needs a little polishing. Canola2 is a great media player app it runs circles around the iPod touch interface when it comes to simplicity, MicroB, a Mozilla based browser renders just about any web page I have thrown at it and MPlayer will play just about any video format you have. There are still lots of UI tweaks needed to make it go mainstream, the GPS needs better software that can be used offline Maemo Mapper is great but offline use is rather limited, need an easier way to connect to Windows shares (Wizard mounter exists but some libraries are missing in newer versions of the OS. Overall, to get it working 100% you need to get your hands dirty with a little command line if you are comfortable with that then this is the gadget for you.

Bought this device for my wife I already have the N800. I can't say enough good things about this device. It made my day when my wife said she would like one after seeing my N800. I love the freedom of a device that allows for community built software. Even out of the box there is some much that comes with the N810 and even more can be added. It does require some reading it has a great community support forum called InternetTabletTalk.com that can answer any and all problems or changes you would like to make. If I had any complaints it would be that the stock interface is not customizable enough but there are many things that are bing done to change this. The OS is Linux and it has endless possibilities. I would love longer battery life (about 4-5 hours with heavy use). I also wish it had a better case one that could flip. Text editing is a little slim but that is also changing. Debian can now be booted off of the device allowing for a new interface and more apps. Great device but does require reading if you want more out of it than an internet browser and PIM (Portable Information Manager) and media device. Saw a review that said no organizer not true have choice of downlading the Palm version or GPE I prefer the simpler winzig which also works on your computer. Syncing with computer is very easy using Grsync. Other than interest in modifiable hardware I bought this to make up for all the information I kept losing on my palm from dying battery and poor syncing. I have my own opinion about it compared to an iPhone but there is no point because it is not meant to be a phone, it is an Internet Tablet and pretty much a little computer.

With anticipation I carefully cut the tape on the box, The packaging wasn't very good from Buy.com, which isn't normal, but the contents was in great condition.( thanks to fedex) The tablet needed to be charged but only took 1 hour or so. The device setup was easy, but AZ isn't in the list for time so I live in Las Vegas now. I've been using the device for 2-3 weeks and haven't had any issues to speak of the software needed to be updated immediately. it bogs down on some mp4 videos and occasionally I have to power it off and back on to speed it up again, but that's normal for a computer. Not for a noob tho you have to be able to grasp its concept to be proficiant. I recommend this for who it was intended a geek on the go. Kudos to Nokia for making an amazing product line even better. I owned the 770 and am happy I skipped the 800. If your on the fence about this, it is amazing and you should buy it.

High Quality and handsome 4/15/2008

Excellent unit, but since it needs a WiFi connect to hotspot or bluetooth connect to phone, it can't "do it" stand-alone. PROS: Excellent quality and chassis is sturdy and handsome (very clean look). Display is outstanding -- it's the best. However, web page text still shows at 4 pitch which is difficult for my 44 yr old eyes. Easy setup and effortless connect to WiFi. Touch screen very responsive when using stylus; not with fingers. Nokia Users Reference site is useful. CONS: No organizer! Must use web based service (e.g. gmail, hotmail, etc). To sync with online organizer, must download 3rd party FREE application (highly rated)from Nokia Users site. Even then, must be in WiFi to connect to organizer :-( Keyboard is very nice touch/feel; but difficult to access top row. Once a company (apparently other than Sprint) finally implements a wireless broadband, then a unit like this will be the way to go ... no doubt. But until then, it is without a reliable connection to access web and sync with other resources.

For stylus users, not finger or keyboard friendly. 4/7/2008

I upgraded from a Pocket PC strictly to get better web surfing experiences and the Nokia N810 is great for this. Full web pages with flash, streaming video, internet radio, etc. I was already a stylus user so my input experience didn't change much, but anyone who wants to use the finger for input will be disappointed. The slide-out thumb keyboard is just too small and I have small thumbs. The pop-up, on-screen finger keyboard is not working well on OS2008, it won't pop-up all the time, this is a bug and hopefully Maemo works on this problem. I found the OS windows to lag sometimes. If you stick with the included apps (surfing, simple gps, notes, non-video skype, listening to mp3s and watching very simple video) then this is a great tool for mobile users. I use this on my nightstand for a quick surf without having to leave the bedroom or bootup a laptop.

N810, a worthy successor to the N800! 2/6/2008

The N810 has proven itself as a worthy personal assistant for accessing the web and email. It quickly and easily identifies compatible wi-fi networks. However, it just as quickly loses its connectivity. The keyboard, while desirable for web purposes, is quite small and demands two finger "hunt and peck" actions. Touch typing is certainly not possible. When I am able to download compatible text files, it will become a more critical tool in my bag of tricks.

Ok. I read the recent reviews and must state that those who are comparing this to the iPhone need to realize that this is NOT a phone. Sure it has Skype but that's VoIP "phone". The iPhone is a dedicated cellular phone with glorified items. And the iPhone doesn't have MS Office either. Another plus for the N810 is it's ability to switch 8GB MiniSD cards. Can the iPhone do that ? No. The iPhone is an "apple". The N810 is an "Orange". When you make comparison's make sure you compare two similar devices. The N810 is an internet tablet that tries to be a phone and a GPS (and webcam). Wanna move MP3 files to the N810 ? Just drag the MP3s to the Mini-SD card. The device automatically sees what's on the card. The iPhone is a great phone that wants to be an internet tablet and a great MP3 player. Wanna move MP3s to the iPhone - ya gotta use iTunes. One day we'll have one device that 'does it all'. Eventually the price of the N810 will go down to the low $300's. It only took Apple 2(?) months to lower the price of the iPhone. Maemo is still fairly new. Just give a few more months and there will be some developers developing some cool software. Someone asked me what the N810 was and I showed them what it can do. Then they asked "How much?" and they balked. One other guy commented: "The reason why he bought is two-fold. 1) He can afford it 2) It does what he wants to get done.". The iPhone is still an expensive phone but if it does what you want it to do - - then buy it (if you can afford it). The iPhone and a Sony VAIO are the perfect gadgets for the Ultimate Road Warrior (or better known as "oustide salesman"). Now if you compare the ASUS eee with the N810 - - that is an equal-device comparison.

My personal recommendation would be to buy a iphone instead of nokia n810 since I have both iphone and nokia n810. Basically GPS in n810 sucks and you have to subscribe for the service. I liked some basic features of the n810 like awesome full pull out qwerty keyboard and great Browsing experience. But There is no Microsoft Office and yahoo messenger or msn messenger. I liked the style and looks of tablet, but its not worth the money we are paying for it. Better Buy a Iphone which has all benefits and features which n810 could do.....

A toy that's not really ready for mainstream 1/29/2008

Most people who will buy this like myself like cutting edge technology for early adopters...I bought this because I am intrigued by the concept behind this device. It is a hybrid ...It still has some rough edges...None of the functionality is completely streamlined yet and is cumbersome to use. Most applications fall short of delivering the ideal experience in usability but they give you a taste of how awesome this device can be if its polished up. Things that leave you wanting more: - GPS service is frustratingly limited without additional subscription cost. Alternatives from Maemo are not well integrated requiring internet connection for real time map data or requiring a download prior to using the routing - Internet connection through bluetooth with your phone uses the Bluetooth DUN profile which will not work with most WM phones that need bluetooth PAN... You need to do some hacking to get that to work...This makes this device even more frustrating because you cannot use it where you would like to. - Email application with IMAP functionality to Gmail or others is buggy.Application takes forever to download the message even it is a small text message. - Multimedia experience is much better but the UPnP streaming from local servers is not something the CPU can handle gracefully. The idea gets you excited but the experience leaves you disappointed.

Bought this device mainly for checking email and the web while I'm in the yard, or in bed. Have it for just a few days, but I like it a lot.<br> <br> * Like:<br> - Excellent display<br> - Good Wifi<br> - More features and flexibilities than the Touch (i.e. GPS, memory card slot, removable battery)<br> * Dislike:<br> - Cannot use it in "portrait" display mode (or at least I haven't yet figured out how)<br> - No video output to TV or external monitor<br> - No "Open Link in New Tab" for the web browser, so you have to use the Back button, and therefore reload the previous page which you were on<br> <br> Despite all of the dislikes mentioned, the N810 is a very cool device. It's not a PDA, but there's a simple word processor. And if you have Wifi access, you can use your Google Doc to create and save documents, calendar, or whatever.
